A Conflict of Interest refers to a situation in which an individual’s personal, professional, financial considerations could, directly or indirectly, affect an individual’s judgement and performance in exercising duty or responsibility to the University.
NUS is in a position of trust in relation to its stakeholders, external organisations as well as with the public.
To maintain the trust and confidence established by the University, staff have a responsibility in their professional conduct & carrying out work for the University, to the government, donors, parents, students, and to use resources prudently and ethically. Considerations for personal gain, financial or otherwise, must not influence the decisions or actions of staff in carrying out their responsibilities to the University.
Ethics and Integrity are shared values of today’s leading organisations. Avoiding conflicts of interests (actual or potential) safeguards fair-play, equity and trust.
The Conflict of Interest Policy applies to:
In the event of failure to submit a declaration, submitting a false or incomplete declaration or non- declaration of COI, would be in violation of the policies of NUS and staff may be subject to disciplinary sanctions.
All staff shall make an ad-hoc declaration as soon as one is aware of the potential or apparent conflict of interest.
If there are any changes to the COI declaration submitted previously, you can log into the COI system to submit an updated declaration. Please contact your Faculty Administrators if you need to submit an
offline declaration.
On the Annual COI Declaration form, staff will be asked to disclose and declare any COI in these key areas :
