For NUS Travellers

What You Need to Know as NUS Travellers

You are:

Student Traveller

This section contains the key information relevant to a student traveller undertaking a university-approved trip.

Active Involvement in the International SOS Programme
  • Download the International SOS Assistance Mobile Application and register with your first name and last name as reflected in your passport
  • Ensure that your trip is reflected in the Assistance Mobile Application. Traveller can manually enter the trip details on the app
  • Ensure that the contact details, particularly your overseas handphone number, are accurate
  • Use the Assistance Application to call the Assistance Centre and also save the International SOS Call Centre Hotline Number +65 6338 7800. Please note that call charges apply, including possible international calling charges 
  • Read and acknowledge communications (sms, call or email) sent by International SOS
Be Part of an University Approved Trip
  • Ensure that the overseas trip has been approved by a relevant NUS department. Check when in doubt
  • Deviations from the approved itinerary may not be covered by the NUS Travel Insurance or the International SOS Programme. Support provided by NUS in such instances may also be limited
  • Save the contact details of the relevant NUS department and/or staff
Personal Responsibility and Travel Insurance Awareness
  • Refer to the Student Insurance Portal for all insurance related matters, particularly for claims
  • Know the coverage for the NUS Student Travel Insurance, including the relevant policy number: Student – 92326313
  • Be aware that outpatient claims are on a re-imbursement arrangement. Prepare extra cash for emergency
  • Comply with any travel directives issued by the Singapore authorities and/or the University

Staff Traveller

This section contains the key information relevant to a staff traveller undertaking a university-approved trip. 

Be familiar with the International SOS Programme
  • Download the International SOS Assistance Mobile Application and register with your first name and last name as reflected in your passport
  • If booked through NUS Travel Management Company, check if the trip details are reflected in the Assistance App
  • Add travel itinerary through the Assistance App whenever necessary
  • Use the Assistance Application to call the Assistance Centre and also save the International SOS Call Centre Hotline Number +65 6338 7800. Please note that call charges apply, including possible international calling charges 
  • Read and acknowledge communications (sms, call or email) sent by International SOS
Official Work Purposes for Trip
  • Ensure that the overseas trip is for official work purposes which are documented and approved by a relevant department
  • Deviations from the approved itinerary may not be covered by the NUS Travel Insurance or the International SOS Programme. Support provided by NUS in such instances may also be limited
  • Save the contact details of the relevant NUS department and/or staff
Personal Responsibility and Travel Insurance Awareness
  • Know the NUS Group Business Travel, including the relevant policy number: Staff – 92316214
  • Understand the Travel Insurance Coverage. Outpatient claims are on a re-imbursement arrangement
  • Contact Chubb, NUS Travel Insurer, for queries and support regarding Insurance. Information about Insurer and claims can be found here
  • Comply with any travel directives issued by the Singapore authorities and/or the University

Traveller Next-of-Kin (NOK)

The Traveller Next-of-Kin plays an important role in emergency response. It is the responsibility of the traveller to ensure that the Next-of-Kin’s contact details are up-to-date in the Staff Database (Staff) or shared with the overseas programme’s Supervising Officer (Student).

Role within the International SOS Programme
  • A call agent from International SOS may reach out to the NOK to authorise NUS and International SOS to act for the traveller if the traveller is unable to provide the authorisation
  • Call International SOS on behalf of the traveller when the Traveller is unavailable
  • Be in regular contact with the NUS Emergency Contact Point during any emergency involving traveller
Be Aware of Traveller's Itinerary
  • Keep in regular contact with traveller when travelling
  • Note the latest known location of traveller 
Save the Contact Details of NUS Staff (Emergency Contact Point)
  • Check with traveller to identify the correct contact person in NUS
  • In most cases, Staff traveller – Department’s Travel Admin or HR Business Partner; Student traveller – Overseas Programme Supervising Officer
  • Save NUS Emergency Hotline: +65 6874 1616

NUS will strictly follow the benefits provided under the NUS Travel Insurance. If outpatient is on a reimbursement basis, NUS is not liable to pay upfront on behalf of the NUS Traveller.

  • Locate available local resources. Partner organizations and schools are likely to have local resources on mental health
  • Call the International SOS Hotline through the Assistance Application or at +65 6338 7800 and request for mental wellbeing assistance
  • Use NUS Health and Wellbeing Resources, including its hotline
Insurance Matter and Financial Concerns
  • For travel insurance advice and claims matter, contact Chubb for accurate advice
  • For Student Travel Insurance coverage, please refer to the Student Insurance Portal
  • For Staff Travel Insurance (Group Travel) coverage, please refer to the Medical & Insurance Section, Staff Portal
  • For financial concerns and difficulties, please reach out to your respective admin staff
  • Emergency Phone Charges may be claimable against the Travel Insurance. Prepare the phone bill and the Intl.SOS case number for submission.
